Madonna in prayer
Anonymous sculptor | 15th century
Currently on display: Palazzo Farnese Civic Museums, Art Gallery

The statue has a distinctly folk-art character, evident in the angularity of its forms; it was part of a polychrome wooden Calvary group that once belonged to the Valcarenghi collection in Milan. This type of sculptural group was quite well-known, and several examples can be found around the world, in varying states of preservation.
