Madonna with child and curtain-holding angels
Sano di Pietro | 1406-1481
Currently on display: Palazzo Farnese Civic Museums, Art Gallery
In this heavily retouched work, one can discern echoes of the refined Sienese style of painting. The figures, tender and delicate, are bathed in light, and the intricate tapestries of the throne accentuate their forms. The decision to depict the tiles lends the painting a depth and perspective that are quite striking when compared to other similar works from the same period.
